Overview

Howard County is accepting applications for the full-time position of Emergency Manager. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the emergency management system in Howard County. The Emergency Manager coordinates activities relating to the prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery to natural disasters, major emergencies and civil emergencies.
The applicant must have the formal education and/ or work experience in occupations that demonstrate the ability to manage the entire emergency management program of Howard County. Such education and / or experience should include planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, budgeting, grant writing and management, program development and management. The ability to work cooperatively with governmental, service, non-profit and private sector agencies and the public is essential. Knowledge of and the ability to use electronic devices for communications, research and word processing is required.
It is expected that training programs prescribed by state and federal emergency management authorities will be completed and attaining basic level Nebraska Emergency Management Agency certified emergency manager status will be achieved within two years of employment.
